Tulsa Shootout

12/27/2011

Kenny Brewer and Josh Hodges are ready to go for this year’s 27th Annual Tulsa Shootout held this Thursday through Saturday, kicking off the New Year the right way, slinging dirt and burning rubber. Kenny will be piloting the Mike Brewer owned #45 SPAR powered Hyper while Josh will be behind the wheel of the #38 SPAR powered Hyper team car. The 21 year old Kenny Brewer is Hyper’s leading main event winner on the year with 15 feature wins and has high hopes for this year’s Tulsa Shootout after making the feature last year in the winged “A” class. This year he will drive both winged and non-wing Outlaw along with teammate Josh Hodges who is stepping into the car normally driven by Mike Brewer. This will be his first time driving a micro in almost two years after moving up driving winged and non-wing ASCS 360 sprint cars in the Napa Auto Parts, Kronik Energy Drink #74x for the past few seasons. Josh is confident in the equipment and excited to climb back in for the Tulsa Shootout. The cars are sponsored by Paul Greenberg with Amsoil, Joe Wilson, Winklers Auto Body, and Professional Paint Supply, and Mike Brewer and Jack Hodges will crew chief the cars with Mark “MacDaddy” Rosborough also a part of the crew. Hodges Motorsports Update - Tulsa Shootout

12/27/2011

We're on our way to Tulsa, Oklahoma today, ready to get some micro racing in at the Quik Trip Center for the 27th Annual Tulsa Shootout. I will be driving the Mike and Kenny Brewer owned #38 SPAR powered Hyper sponsored by Paul Greenberg with Amsoil, Joe Wilson, Winklers Auto Body, and Professional Paint Supply. It will be my first time racing a micro in almost two years, but after practicing it last weekend I feel confident that we can have a good run in it. Both me and Kenny Brewer will be running in both the Outlaw wing and non-wing classes so it will be a fun and busy few days running a total of four classes among us. The racing will begin Thursday and won't stop until Saturday night when the Golden Drillers are handed out. Also on the crew this week will be Mark "MacDaddy" Rosborough along with crew chiefs Jack Hodges and Mike Brewer. Look for updates on Facebook and Twitter later on in the week and an update on how we did.

Hodges Motosrports Update - USA Raceway

11/19/2011

Our second night is in the books after running the non-wing portion of the 44th Annual Kronik Energy Drinks Western World Championships yesterday here in Tucson, AZ. We were up and down through the night, starting off pulling pill 38 which set me second row outside of the third heat. On the get go, I got a decent jump into turn 1 but got out of shape and lost some ground to 3rd. After that I regrouped and started running the bottom line to get past. Eventually I got next to him and was able to slide to second, but first to far out ahead to go after so I finished 2nd from 4th in my heat. That made 4th highest point guy and put me in the top 8 redraw where I pulled 8. Now starting on the 4th row outside of the feature I buried it into turn 1 and made some ground but lost it all on exit and I found myself back to about 13th. From there I had to start working forward and I tried to make the bottom line work for several laps. I got by a few people early up to 10th before a red flag around lap 10. Soon after the restart I went up to the cushion which was the fast way around, and I got by for 9th. Towards the last 5 laps of the race I made up a lot of ground running the top and I approached the transfer spot in 7th and the 8th place car, but biked in turn 2. Luckily I was able to save it and start back up again. I once again got close but caught the left side in the air off turn 2 again in the cushion and after that I was lucky just to hold my position. Both nights we have fought the same problems but tonight we look to fix those and hopefully get ourselves into the feature event. In the non-wing car, I will start outside the front row of the first B. In the wing car I will start inside row 3 in the first B. In both 3 transfer, so we have a decent shot to put it in the show. Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway

11/18/2011

Night 1 of the 44th Annual Kronik Energy Drinks Western World Championships is wrapped up at the USA Raceway here in Tucson, AZ. We run with wings last night, and got started by pulling the 26 pill to start 3rd in the 4th heat. The track was tacky and fast for the heats with a small slick, black streak on exit of turn 2. I got hung up on the inside row of the start, but was able to get to 3rd and start running down 2nd. My car was getting tight all the way around, and I was able to get within a few car lengths of 2nd but just not enough to get by. Despite no passing points, that still gave us a 13th place starting position for the feature. The track now got some slick spots through the middle but had a good bottom and top groove. After avoidig some early cautions, the green flag flew for a long strech to the finish in which I held my ground, but was not very strong. Although we didn't change much from previous nights at this track, this is a different car than we normally run and it has a different niche, so we will work to figure it out for Saturday. Tonight we're taking the tops off running with the ASCS Canyon region. I would like to give a big thanks to Brad Benic and the Huishes for helping us out last night, and we look forward to tonights racing. Hodges Motorsports Update - Southern NM Speedway

11/13/2011

The racing weekend is over for the ASCS National Tour in Las Cruces, NM after two days of racing wheel to wheel atop the Southern New Mexico Speedway. Tonight kicked off for us with pulling the 33 pill to start 4th in the 4th heat. The track wasn't as wet to start with as last night and it was dusty, black, and slick all the way up to the cushion when we hit the track. After getting under way, I found myself just too loose and I was only able to hang on to 4th place in the heat. That put us starting 5th in the 3rd B feature. It was evident that the track had taken rubber, and it was going to be tough to pass at all. After an early caution which me moved me to 3rd, I fell in line there when the leaders went off the end of turns 3 and 4 due to strong winds, but a caution came out and they got their spots back. There was caution after caution, and I was as fast as the leaders but I could not do anything to challenge them so we came home 3rd, one spot from the transfer position and ending our night. Now we look ahead just a few days to Thursday the 17th for the 44th Annual Kronik Energy Drinks Western World Championships at USA Raceway. We will run the wing car on Thursday and the non-wing car on Friday so it will be a full weekend for us but we are confident we can have some good runs in both cars in Tucson, AZ.

Hodges Motosrports Update - Souther NM Speedway

11/12/2011

One night of the ASCS National two day show is over at the Southern New Mexico Speedway here in Las Cruces, NM. I kicked it off pulling the 44 pill, which put me starting 6th in the fifth heat race. The track was really heavy, and I stuggled in the second hot lap session to get the car to roll nicely. It turns out I had a bit of the same problem in the heat race, and I was only able to manage a 5th place finish. With 61 cars in the pits, that result was only good enough to get a 3rd row outside starting spot in the third B feature. After making some changes, we got under way and the car was feeling really good. I was able to make my way to 3rd really quick, and I hung there for about 10 laps. 2nd place (the last transfer spot) bobbled and I was able to make up some ground so I was only a few car lengths behind. Through lap traffic, on the final lap, I was able to go by on the inside and slide up in front to secure 2nd place, and the final transfer spot to the A feature. From there, we made a few changes to try and adapt to changing track conditions, and in the first few laps of the A, I was able to go by about four cars from 20th, but then my car started to get really snug and I slipped backwards. A few laps in I was caught a lap down with a caution, so that set me back away from the field, unable to race for position, but for the remainder of the race I got to run with some faster cars and I really learned a lot. It was great just to make the feature after our dismal heat race, and we are ready to go at it again tonight!

Hodges Motorsports Update - Southern NM Speedway

11/11/2011

We are on I-25 making the quick trip down to Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, New Mexico, ready to rock n' roll tonight as the ASCS National Sprint Cars get ready to invade the desert, not to mention the likes of Steve Kinser, Donny Shatz, and many more who will be on hand today and tomorrow. It will be our lone visit of the year in Las Cruces, our last race there being the National show a year previous which ended with us upside down. This year we hope for better luck in our home state, and we look to give the Mesilla Valley Transportation, Kronik Energy Drink No. 74x a good run. Remember that just a few days after we will be across the Arizona border in Tucson for the 44th Annual Kronik Energy Drink Western World Championships staring Thursday of next week. We will be running both cars next weekend, with the wing car on Thursday and the non-wing car on Friday. Keep up with us through the night on Facebook and Twitter, and check in tomorrow for a detailed update from the night before!
